Dinah Was spins the life story of "Queen of the Blues" singer Dinah Washington. Dinah, the first black woman to sing on the Las Vegas strip, has been the Lake Sahara hotel's 1959 sellout nightclub draw. But, blacks are forbidden from staying in the hotel and a special trailer is reserved out back. Dinah, entering the hotel via the whites-only front lobby, stages a sit-in in protest and reflects on her difficult career. Denver's own jazz performer, Rene Marie, offers an unforgettable performance as Dinah Washington.
